Transforming a Standard Meeting Room into an Acoustic Sanctuary

The Vision

A prominent client approached Slyde Innovations with a poetic design brief: they wanted their primary meeting

space to feel like "Cloud 9." The goal was to move away from the sterile, flat aesthetic of traditional office ceilings and

create a relaxing, organic atmosphere that fostered creativity while maintaining high-performance acoustic standards.

The Challenge

Bringing this "cloud" concept to life required overcoming several architectural and engineering hurdles:

• Scale and Weight: The design called for oversized, deep-profile felt domes that needed a secure, minimalist suspension system to maintain the "floating" illusion.

• Dimensional Texture: Achieving a consistent, rippled "wave" effect across multiple domes required precision fabrication to ensure the light hit every surface uniformly.

• Integration: We had to navigate existing overhead utilities, including HVAC ducting and lighting, without compromising the visual flow of the installation.

The Solution

Our team engineered a custom suspension array for the Rippled Acoustic Domes. By utilizing high-density,

sustainable PET felt, we provided a dual-purpose solution:

• Light Interaction: We specifically designed the ridge frequency of the ripples to catch natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows. This creates a "living" ceiling that shifts in tone and shadow throughout the day.

• Acoustic Mastery: The dome shape serves as a natural sound trap, diffusing standing waves and significantly reducing reverberation time—essential for a glass-walled meeting environment.

• Precision Enginerring: We developed a specialized hanging kit that allowed for micro-adjustments in height, ensuring the "clouds" overlapped seamlessly to hide the industrial ceiling above.

The Result

The finished space is a masterclass in functional art. The "Cloud 9" ceiling has become a signature feature of the office, providing a serene backdrop for high-stakes meetings. By pairing bold architectural forms with soft, sounddampening materials, we helped the designer turn a conceptual dream into a high-performance reality.
